National Aviary and Baby Sloth Valentino Featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

(PITTSBURGH) - October 12, 2016 -  When five-year-old cancer survivor Violet Brielle Spataro appeared as a special guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this past spring, she shared with Ellen her over-the-top love for sloths.  Hearing her story, staff at the National Aviary responded, inviting her to the Aviary for a personal introduction to Valentino, the Aviary’s baby two-toed sloth.

Violet’s visit is featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. During her special visit, Violet had the opportunity to feed and hold Valentino, and learn about his care and behaviors,  as well as meet and interact with other feathered friends. Excerpts from that visit air today Wednesday, October 12, on Ellen, and a segment can be viewed at .

“Violet was a delight to have as a visitor. Her love for animals and especially sloths was so sweet and so genuine – she just shines,” says National Aviary Executive Director Cheryl Tracy.  “At the National Aviary, we are all about inspiring children, but seeing Violet’s joy at spending time with Valentino was truly a gift for us.”

The National Aviary will air the show at 4 pm in the Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone™ Theater.  The public is invited to attend.  Valentino, his trainers, and Dr. Pilar Fish, all of whom appear in the segment, are available this afternoon for interviews.
