(PITTSBURGH) – August 22, 2018 --   The National Aviary’s beloved baby girl sloth is growing up! The Linnaeus’s Two-toed  Sloth turned one year old on Tuesday, August 21st. She was celebrated the next day by National Aviary staff and visitors with birthday treats and activities.

Guests wished the adorable birthday girl well by signing her birthday card, making paper sloth crafts, indulging in pink cookies, and gathering round for the reading of the book Sloth’s Birthday Party. Vivien made a special appearance in the National Aviary’s Helen M. Schmidt FliteZoneTM Theater where she was presented with a birthday cake made of vegetables and adorned with the number 1 cut from one of her favorite foods, sweet potato.

Vivien had a remarkable first year filled with naps, vegetables, climbing, and visits with caring National Aviary guests. She is an ambassador for her species, helping visitors to learn about sloths and other rainforest species and the importance of conserving rainforest habitats.

Sloth encounters with Vivien, or the National Aviary’s juvenile sloth Valentino, are available daily at 10:00 am, and can be booked in advance by calling 412-258-9445. A portion of admission to the National Aviary and fees for interactive encounters help the National Aviary save birds and their protect habitats. You can also give a birthday to Vivien by making a donation in her honor at https://give.aviary.org/happybirthdayvivien.
