Once Again, Pittsburghers Give Big

Once Again, Pittsburghers Give Big

See which charities attracted the most donors and raised the most money during the seventh annual one-day charitable giving extravaganza.

After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Pittsburghers might not be inclined to add to their credit card balances.

Not so. When the seventh annual Give Big Pittsburgh rolled around on Tuesday, Pittsburghers didn’t hesitate at all. More than $3 million was raised in the first 24 hours, exceeding last year’s first-day total by $6,300. 9,459 donors supported a total of 491 local nonprofits. The Give Big Pittsburgh effort is the result of a partnership among Pittsburgh Magazine, GBU Life and GiveGab, an online donation platform.

“It’s become such a fun tradition at our office to watch the growing totals throughout the day,” said Pittsburgh Magazine Publisher and Vice President Betsy Benson. “We’ve always believed that Pittsburgh is one of the most giving cities in the country, and it’s so gratifying to see that generosity displayed right before eyes.”

If you missed out on Giving Tuesday, a nationally recognized response to the holiday spending done on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, no worries –– the Give Big Pittsburgh website will be open until the end of the year to accept donations. You can also track which charities have raised the most money and which have the most donors.

Here are the top 10 in both categories as of Wednesday morning.
