The National Aviary is located on Pittsburgh’s historic Northside, just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, PNC Park, and the Children’s Museum.

Driving Directions to the National Aviary

The National Aviary is located at 700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Parking at the National Aviary

Parking in the National Aviary parking lot is available on a first-come, first-served basis for a $7 flat rate. Visitors may access the National Aviary entrance on Arch Street via a 2-minute walk through Allegheny Commons Park.

Please note: the Aviary parking lot closes nightly at 5 pm.

Garage parking is available at the Nova Place Garage (100 South Commons Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212), about a 9-minute walk to the National Aviary, and at Federal North Garage, 1307 Federal Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, about an 8-minute walk to the National Aviary.

Street parking is available near the National Aviary. Sections of the following streets near the National Aviary are metered, payable at the meter or through the Park Mobile app: Federal Street, N. Commons, S. Commons, E. Commons, W. Commons, Ridge Avenue, Western Avenue, W. Ohio Street, Brighton Road, Arch Street.

Free street parking is available on sections of the following streets: Buena Vista Street, Monterey Street, Resaca Place, N. Taylor Avenue, W. North Avenue.

The National Aviary is located near public transportation stops for the Port Authority of Allegheny County’s bus lines and light rail stops. Bus stops are located near the National Aviary’s entrance along North Avenue, Brighton Road, Ridge Avenue, and Arch Street. 2026 Hours

  • Summer Hours: Open daily from 10 am – 5 pm.
  • Wed., July 15: The National Aviary is OPEN; however, our parking lot will be CLOSED for Night in the Tropics set up. Please utilize street parking upon your visit.
  • Thurs., July 16: The National Aviary will be CLOSED for Night in the Tropics set up.
  • Fri., July 17: The National Aviary will be CLOSED for our largest annual fundraiser, Night in the Tropics.
  • Sat., July 18: The National Aviary will reopen at 12 pm; our parking lot will open at 1 pm.

Detour Route

Ongoing: The North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road over the Norfolk Southern Railroad is closed. This closure does not affect the Brighton Road portion of the bridge. The eastern leg of North Avenue will also remain available for travel. Drivers who plan to head west on North Avenue should use Pennsylvania and Western Avenues.

Beginning July 10 – August 3 (weather-permitting), I-376 will be closed in either direction between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77). Please use the following detour to the National Aviary from that direction.

  • Squirrel Hill Tunnel Detour
    • From westbound (inbound) I-376, take the Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B) exit toward PA 8 North
    • Merge onto Route 8 (Ardmore Boulevard)
    • Continue straight onto Route 8 (Penn Avenue)
    • Turn left onto Fifth Avenue in Oakland
    • After going through Oakland, take the ramp to the left for westbound I-376. Use caution for opposing traffic
    • Merge onto the Boulevard of the Allies and stay in the right lane to merge onto westbound I-376 toward Downtown/Fort Pitt Bridge
    • Take Exit 70C for I-279 N/Fort Duquesne Bridge toward North Shore
    • Continue onto I-279, then use the second from the left land to take the ramp to Reedsdale Street
    • Use the middle lane to take exit 1B toward North Shore
    • Use the right lane to merge onto Reedsdale Street
    • Turn right onto Allegheny Avenue, then turn right at the light onto Ridge Avenue
    • Turn left onto Arch Street to get to the National Aviary
