Equity & Inclusion

As organizations that value and champion biodiversity in nature, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and its members, including the National Aviary, value and support diversity in all its forms. Our work and the work of our members, day in and day out, demonstrate these values.

AZA’s fifth promise serves as a guiding principle for the AZA staff and the work of our Association.

AZA’s accreditation standard 7.9 requires that members have a written plan to create a welcoming environment that is accessible to all and is embedded in the organizational culture. Plans must be proactive and transparent, with measurable goals for assessing progress, and should have a paid staff member(s) or committee responsible for oversight. Plans must be in accordance with local, state, and national laws and regulations.
