Pittsburgh’s National Aviary hosted a birthday party for its resident sloths, Wookiee and Vivien, last week. Over 500 visitors stopped in to wish the animal ambassadors a happy birthday and sign an oversized card in their honor. Vivien celebrated turning 9, while Wookiee turned 26. According to Director of Animal Programs and Experiences Cathy Schlott, “Our dual celebration of Vivien and Wookiee serves as an excellent way to teach our guests about the importance of biodiversity in our shared ecosystem. Sloths may live solitary lives in rainforests, but they’re constantly surrounded by and sharing resources with birds and other animals who call the same habitats home.”
