Visit the National Aviary to show your support for African Penguins, which are facing extinction in the wild. Roughly 186 million people visit zoos and aquariums ever year, supporting the important work zoos, like the National Aviary, are doing to save species from extinction. Together we CAN make a difference!

Join us for fun activities throughout the day, included with admission!
  • Build a Penguin Nest: 11am-1pm
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Craft: 11am-3pm
  • Penguin Encounter ($40 per person)
  • Penguin Toss Game: 1pm-3pm
  • Penguin Feeding: 1pm
  • Penguin Parade: 2pm
  • Penguin Enrichment Talk: 2:15pm-3pm
Cast your vote for what we will name one of our penguins!

This exciting contest runs from April 25 - May 20. Stop by Penguin Point at the National Aviary to vote via a cash donation, or earn penguin tokens (worth a penny each) when you attend special penguin activities. Which name will you choose?

  • Sphen: Short for Spheniscus demersus, the scientific name for African Penguins
  • Rocky: African Penguins are warm weather penguins that reside along the rocky coastline of South Africa.
  • Archie:  National Aviary is located at Arch Street in Pittsburgh’s Historic North Side neighborhood!

The name that raised the most money will be our winner! The winning name will be announced the week of May 22.
