Security Guard, Part-time

The National Aviary has one part-time non-exempt Security Guard positions to fill in our Buildings and Grounds Department.  The positions will report to the Facilities Support Manager.  The primary duties entail the protection of the National Aviary premises, assets and personnel. This unarmed position maintains a high visibility presence, inspects and patrols the National Aviary to ensure safety, and guards against trespassing, theft, vandalism, and other illegal activities. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Protect the National Aviary’s property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment, enforcing established guest policies and staff protocols.
  • Observe for signs of crime and/or disorder and investigate disturbances
  • Take accurate notes of unusual occurrences
  • Report in detail any security risks and/or suspicious incidents
  • Patrol the buildings and perimeter randomly and regularly
  • Monitor parking lot for unauthorized or illegal use
  • Monitor and control access at building entrances and vehicle gates
  • Safeguard temporarily restricted areas (e.g. construction sites)
  • Perform basic safety walkthroughs and alleviate or report unsafe conditions
  • Monitor security cameras.  Report and respond to, as trained, any and all facility issues noticed (e.g. alarms, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, storm impact)
  • Respond to and assist in visitor situations following Aviary protocol
  • Perform basic first aid or CPR as certified, if necessary
  • Escort and/or provide transportation as requested
  • Assist staff members in light logistics (e.g. moving packages), tidying (e.g. pushing in chairs), and light housekeeping (e.g. wiping spills off of floors)
  • Interact with visitors utilizing Aviary Visitor Engagement protocol
  • Promotes a positive influence to enhance productivity and a pleasant work environment, exhibits willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done  
  • Responsible for all other tasks, as assigned, by the Facilities Support Manager

 

Qualifications

  • High School degree or GED
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Integrity and professionalism
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in various situations.
  • Can maintain a calm demeanor and act in courteous manner under pressure
  • Ability to familiarize oneself with all Aviary protocols and guest policies
  • Ability to learn how to operate security systems and emergency equipment
  • CPR certification preferred
  • Security or equivalent experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of public safety, security procedures/protocols, a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Carrying, pushing, pulling, crawling, reaching, grabbing, bending, stooping, and kneeling should be expected. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass all required background investigations and obtain a PA Child Abuse Clearance.
