Join Dr. Pilar Fish for a glimpse behind the scenes in the National Aviary’s Teaching Hospital, a loving home for older birds and birds with special needs. Get to know one of the resident birds and their personal story, take a tour of the bird’s specially designed habitat, and learn how Dr. Fish takes x-rays, applies bandages, and gives treatments to help the birds in her care thrive.

There is a world behind the scenes at the National Aviary where older birds and birds with special needs are thriving in specially designed habitats. They receive individualized, loving care that meets their unique needs. Join Dr. Pilar Fish, the National Aviary’s Senior Director of Zoological Advancement and Avian Medicine, for a look into the National Aviary’s Teaching Hospital. Meet some of the Teaching Hospital’s charismatic residents, hear their stories, and see how Dr. Fish and her team design care plans— like customized habitats— to encourage natural behaviors and to provide for each bird’s specialized care.
