International African Penguin Awareness Day | Saturday, October 9 | 10 am – 4:30 pm | Included with Admission

Visit the National Aviary and participate in a penguin-filled day! Learn about the endangered African Penguin during different activities throughout the day and what you can do at home to help penguin species around the world! 

During International African Penguin Awareness Day:

10 am – 4:30 pm: Time to measure up! See how you compare to different penguin species!

10 am – 4:30 pm: Get creative! Stop by the Atrium and pick up your take home penguin-themed craft.

10:30 am & 4 pm: African Penguin Feeding! Watch the colony be fed their favorite food: sustainably-sourced fish as you learn about this endangered species from one of our experts!

11:30 am: Penguin Story Time! Enjoy a penguin-themed book in the theater!

1:30 pm: Penguin Meet and Greet! Say hello to an African Penguin!


Add-on a Penguin Encounter, Private Penguin Feeding, or Jr. Penguin Encounter to get even closer to an African Penguin! Space is limited.
