Amazing Adaptations

Birds are special and specialized.  Students discover the unique characteristics, and meet species with the most amazing feet, feathers and beaks! Customize your program to Birds of Prey, or the Rainforest Ecosystem.

I Want To Be A Vet

Students explore the exciting world of veterinary medicine and learn what it’s like to work in a bird hospital. Playing the role of vet, students care for “plush” patients, make diagnoses and plan treatment.  Live patients will be on hand to tell their own stories of treatment and healing.

Owls

Owls are one of the most recognizable birds on earth, yet they remain elusive to many because of their behaviors.  Students encounter live owls from around the world and discover the adaptations that make them successful hunters, day and night!

Penguins are Cool

Students discover all 18 species of penguin through a PowerPoint journey across the globe, and learn how these unique, flightless birds survive in their worlds.  Our African penguins take center stage to showcase special adaptations and behaviors.

What’s for Lunch?

Students discover the relationship between beak shape and preferred foods.  Several live birds showcase their beaks during a special feeding demonstration.

Mythbust or Bird Must?

Birds of Prey

Approximately 1 in 5 bird species are currently under threat.  Through compelling stories and live birds,  students discover species that are in jeopardy and those making a comeback, exploring how we can help.

Animal Training Techniques

Learn how biology and psychology combine to elicit desired behaviors in our birds.  Through live bird demonstrations and fun role-play scenarios, students will discover which strategies work for specific conditions, what to do when conditions change, and how the science behind animal training can be applied to everyday life.

Veterinary Experience

Learn how to think like a vet while exploring this exciting STEM career.  This program includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Aviary’s Avian Hospital.  Add on a 1-hour hands-on necropsy lab for an unforgettable experience.  (National Aviary location only)
