Teen Summer Camp Assistant

Teens interested in education or childhood development can volunteer as a Summer Camp Assistant. These volunteers will be assigned to work at least one full week of camp. Camp Assistants help National Aviary educators with camp lessons and activities from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday –Friday. For teens with a busy summer schedule, 35 service hours can be earned in one week.

This position is for the summer season only.

Days needed: Monday - Friday for at least one of these camp sessions:

June TBD Preschool (ages 4-5) 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

June TBD ages 6 - 8

July TBD ages 6 - 8

July TBD ages 9 - 12

July TBD ages 9 - 12

Number of hours required: 35 hours total (20 hours for preschool camp) + orientation and training

Specific time/ shift  required: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. 

Volunteer responsibilities: 

Assist educators with running of camp, includes helping with crafts, snacks, bathroom breaks, games, songs and overall supervision of the children to keep everyone safe.

The National Aviary teen volunteer program is open to students who will be 14-17 years old by June 1, 2019.  Teens help us to advance our mission during our busiest season of the year. Students gain valuable skills and avian knowledge while experiencing the daily life of a bird zoo. Currently, we only accept teen volunteers to start in the summer. 

If you are interested in becoming a teen volunteer, please complete an online application between January 1 and  March 1, 2019. Applications must be complete and on time to be considered. The application is only live on our website for these two months.

If your application is accepted, you will be invited to a group interview. You will be required to bring a written personal reference. 

 For those who are accepted into the program, the teen volunteer orientation will be held on June 13, 2019. This is a required day of training to prepare for volunteering.
