  • A Bird Lover's Adventure in Blue Spruce Park and Yellow Creek State Park- Saturday, October 12 | 8 am - 5 pm (SOLD OUT)
    Join National Aviary Ornithologist Bob Mulvihill on an awesome bird adventure, where 137 bird species have been seen in fall. Hand-feed Black-capped Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatches, and Tufted Titmice, and explore the park’s beautiful fall foliage.
  • Owl Prowls - October 24 & 30 | 7 pm
    Join National Aviary Ornithologist Bob Mulvihill for a guided, after-dark nature walk to listen for owls and search the treetops for Eastern Screech Owls, Great Horned Owls, and Barred Owls.

Classes for All Ages

  • Ornithologist Series - September 12, 19, and 26 | 10 am – 11:30 am
    Join National Aviary Ornithologist Bob Mulvihill for a series of classes focusing on unique aspects of birds, from behavior to appearance. Classes will include both classroom time and time walking in and around the National Aviary. Refreshments will be served!

Group Offerings:

Select from one of these fascinating presentations delivered by our ornithologist for groups of 15 people or more. Live bird appearances are not included. 

  • Bird Conservation
    Get an insider look at the National Aviary’s bird conservation projects at home and across the globe.
  • Identify that Bird
    Prime your bird-watching skills by learning more about the birds of the Pittsburgh region, and how the right binoculars, field guides and apps can support your success.
  • Birding by Ear
    This introduction to bird song teaches you how to identify birds by their songs and calls. It is a must for any new or seasoned birdwatcher.
  • What’s Good for Birds is Good for Your Backyard
    This overview of bird-friendly habitats is a great starting point for creating a space that is attractive to birds and healthier for you!

Behind-the-scenes Experiences at the National Aviary: 

  • Be a VIP at the National Aviary!
    Get the star treatment at the National Aviary!  Families, friends or couples can customize their VIP experience by selecting from an exciting menu of options, including exclusive, behind the scenes activities!
    Cost: $300 per person, or $500 for 2 people
  • Be a Trainer for a Day!
    Spend a full day alongside our aviculturists and trainers, discovering what it takes to care for, feed and train more than 500 birds. See a show with a bird training session. Help to feed beauitful birds, and spend some time with our colony of African penguins!
    Cost: $275 per person, or $450 for 2 people
