Birthday Party Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical flow of a birthday party?

Birthday Party packages include all day admission to the National Aviary. Your guests are welcome to explore the Aviary during your party. Food is served at the beginning of your party and kept under heaters to enjoy at your convenience.  Birthday party add-ons take place near the middle of your party.

Can I bring extra guests? If so, how much does it cost?

Yes; extra guests are welcome at a cost of $10 per person.

When is my deposit due?

Deposit is due with signed contract in order to secure your requested date and time?

When is my final payment due?

Final payment and final count is due 10 days before your party.

What if I have extra guests at the last minute?

Guests added the day of your party are added at the general admission rate of $17.

How long does an encounter take? What does it entail?

A single bird encounter lasts about 10 minutes; 2 encounters, 20 minutes; 3 encounters, 30 minutes. Parrot paintings last 20 minutes. The trainer will bring the bird into your private party room. The trainer will talk about the animal and be available for questions, and your guests may take photos.

Can we pet the birds?

Touching the birds is not permitted.

Are there any stipulations on decorating?

The National Aviary does not allow balloons, piñatas, confetti, open flames (except for birthday candles on the cake), or decorations on walls. We can supply blue or pink colored plastic table cloths for your party based on your number of guests. Check our birthday theme pages for decorating ideas!

Do we have to pay for parking?

Parking is available in the National Aviary lot on a first come, first serve basis for $5 per vehicle. Street parking is available nearby.

Can we just bring in cake, or do we have to purchase additional food? Can we bring in drinks?

Yes you can bring cake only. No additional food purchase is required. If you bring in drinks, please be sure they do not include straws.

When is my food order due?

Food orders are due no later than the Monday prior to your party date.

Is there a birthday party host?

Visitor services staff will be available if you have any questions; there is not a designated birthday party staff person on site during your party.
