The oil from a Crested Oropendola's preen gland gives this bird a distinctive musky smell.

Distribution

Lowland South America east of the Andes Mountains, from Panama to northern Argentina. Also the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.

Habitat

Forest edges and clearnings.

Diet

Fruit, insects, and occasional nectar.
