Accounting Clerk, Full-time

Position Overview:

The Accounting Clerk, with the assistance and under the direction of the Accounting Manager, performs a wide variety of clerical, bookkeeping and financial tasks including processing twice a month payroll using ADP software, accounts payable vendor invoice processing, employee expense report review and processing, cash receipt and deposit processing and gift shop merchandise processing.  The successful candidate will be a team player who has strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accurate and timely processing of payroll including the remittance of various deductions to the proper entity and year end W-2 and 1095 form processing utilizing the ADP system.
  • Process all Aviary vendor invoices, employee credit cards and employee expense reports in a timely manner including the issuance of annual 1099 MISC Forms.
  • Process various weekly deposits and credit card transactions such as donations, facility rentals and miscellaneous open accounts receivable invoices. 
  • Serve as coordinator for the ordering and receiving of gift shop merchandise in partnership with the Visitor Services Gift Shop Department to ensure the accurate processing of merchandise purchase order transactions.
  • Reconcile the Aviary’s petty cash account 
  • Sort and distribute the Aviary’s daily mail
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer and Accounting Manager in matters related to Administration and Finance, as needed.  
Education, Experience and Skills:

Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or two to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and comfort working with automated accounting software packages and ADP or other automated payroll systems is a plus.  A working knowledge of Excel and Word is preferred. Strong analytical skills, problem solving ability and good interpersonal skills required.
