Crafts & Games

Work with children to create unique bird-themed crafts or play a simple game during our special event weekends.

This position is monthly.

Days needed: One Saturday or Sunday a month, occasional Monday holiday, August –May. Some evening events throughout the year.

Number of hours required: 5 hours per day

Specific time/ shift  required:   10:30 am – 3:30 pm or 5:00 - 9:00 pm

Volunteer responsibilities:

  • Volunteers work in pairs with children of all ages to create the craft designed and prepared by the National Aviary. 
  • Volunteer may run a children’s game like Simon Says or our Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to use scissors, glue stick, tempera paint, paper punches etc. 
  • Must enjoy working with children, have good interpersonal and communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 15 years old.
  • Submit an online application
  • Participate in a 20-30 minute interview.
  • Have a clear criminal background check and child abuse history.
  • Submit for FBI fingerprinting or sign waiver if eligible.
  • Have reliable and convenient internet access.
  • Enjoy interacting with the general public.
  • Attend new Volunteer Orientation.
  • Commit to a minimum of 40 hours of service per year. (This equals one four-hour shift per month.)

 

Acceptance in to the program is based on your interview, availability and compatibility of interests.
