Visitor Engagement Specialist 

The National Aviary is currently seeking to fill part-time visitor engagement positions. Visitor Engagement Specialists will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Interpretive Educator.  Positions run year round.  

Visitor Engagement Specialists are part of a dynamic and energetic education department performing all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects the National Aviary’s mission to inspire a respect for nature through an appreciation of birds. National Aviary Visitor Engagement Specialists will:

  • Operate and facilitate guest engagement in Birdly, the National Aviary’s new bird flight simulation experience
  • Operate Birdly following standard operating and safety procedures at all times
  • Provide interpretive support and communications for the National Aviary’s messaging at Birdly
  • Provide excellent customer service for flyers and non-flyers
  • Work cooperatively with the National Aviary’s Interpretive Educator team, as well as other National Aviary departments and staff

Visitor Engagement Specialists work in a high-paced environment. Due to the nature of the work, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Customer service, education or communications background preferred 
  • Must be 18 years or older and possess a high school degree or equivalent
  • Strong public speaking skills as well as the ability to interact and communicate enthusiastically with a variety of audiences in a professional and productive manner
  • Ability to engage others, using initiative and proper professional judgment
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures
  • Ability to make quick decisions and use sound judgement regarding guest and employee safety while operating Birdly
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as scheduled; some evenings, outdoor work and offsite work may be required
  • Ability to perform some heavy physical labor such as lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Experience with standard computer software, virtual reality software, and/or virtual reality mechanics a plus.  Training is provided.

The successful candidate must be able to pass all three of our background investigations including FBI fingerprinting for Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and PA State Police Criminal Background Investigation. A valid PA Driver’s License is desired.
