Visitor Services Associate, Part Time

Reports to: Visitor Services Manager

General Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the Manager and Assistant Manager with all visitor service operations, which include the Retail Shop and Admissions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate admissions and retail records, safeguarding cash, promoting walk-in membership sales and the sales of in-house encounters and programs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Greet guests and complete the check-in process.
  •  Utilize the Point-of-Sale system efficiently for admission, merchandising, and scheduling.
  •  Direct school and party groups.
  •  Promote and sell memberships, brunch, all classes and education programs.
  •  Price merchandise and accurately maintain and replace stock sold from display.
  •  Assist management in receiving and ticketing new merchandise.
  •  Maintain the cleanliness of all retail and admissions operations.  Continually maintain the gift shop merchandise so all products are straightened and neat.
  •  Communicate with other departments to ensure accurate scheduling and staffing.
  •  Have an understanding of the National Aviary’s history and be equipped to share interesting facts about our birds.
  •  Assist in outside telephone call coordination, answering general guest questions and direct calls to appropriate individuals.
  •  Accurately enter purchase orders into the Point of Sale system following all protocols and policies.
  •  Cross reference said purchase order against the confirmation received.  Check for accuracy and any inconsistencies.
  •  Solely receive and ticket new merchandise and properly distribute and display product in the gift shops.
  • Interact with visitors utilizing Aviary Visitor Engagement protocol.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with Point-of Sale system preferred
  •  Must be highly professional, respectful and responsive when interacting with visitors and colleagues.
  •  Well organized, with both time management and multi-tasking skills.
  •  Must have reliable transportation.
  •  Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work on weekdays, weekends and during events.
  •  Proficient in both written and oral communication skills, positive and professional appearance, and proficiency in public speaking.
  •  Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  •  Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  •  Knowledge of various computer programs such as Excel and Word.
  •  Must be able to operate the phone system and cash register equipment.

  • ACT 33/34 clearances
  • FBI Clearance

 

Physical Demands:  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, to walk, and to talk and hear. The employee is required to perform heavy physical labor such as lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.  The employee must occasionally operate and maintain hand and power equipment.

Work Environment:
