Opening March 20, 2010, the new Grasslands Exhibit allows guests to enter a natural world inhabited by finches, doves, plover and other species native to grassland areas around the world.

The exhibit’s boardwalk trail and simple rope railings minimize the barrier between visitors and free-flying birds, creating a wonderful shared environment. Enjoy spotting the birds as they flit among sea oats, river birch and dogwood trees, and take in the sounds of colorful Gouldian finches, paradise whydah, Sudan golden sparrows, shaft-tail finches, melba finches, blue ground doves and more.

While you’re there, learn about the unique life sustained in grassland habitats and the importance of these rapidly disappearing areas to the balance of nature.
