What is the cost?

$40 per person, $35 for National Aviary members. A gift certificate for 8 people to enjoy the program costs $275.

Can I bring a video camera into the program?

Video cameras are not allowed. For safety, everyone needs to have their full attention on the penguin.

Can I take photos?

Cameras are not allowed in the Penguin Connection. For safety, everyone needs to have their full attention on the penguin. A photographer will take photos during the program and the photos will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the program.

Are reservations required?

Yes, all participants must have a pre-purchased ticket to enter the program. Please bring that ticket with you to your program.

Will there be only my group in the program?

Only if there are 8 people in your group. If not, others will be added to the program until the number of people totals eight.

How far in advance do I need to make reservations?

At least 3 weeks in advance. Dates can sell out months ahead of time. Individuals must have a ticket to enter the program.

Can I bring my infant to the program? He/she will be quiet and in a stroller.

No, all children must be at least 6 years of age.

Can I bring a stroller into the program?

Stroller age children are not permitted in this program.

Can I bring a wheelchair into the program?

Yes. Please let the program scheduler know of any special needs so that we can prepare appropriately for your program.

Can we pet the penguin?

Yes, depending upon the behavior of the penguin.

Can I buy out the program for the day?

Yes, you can buy a gift certificate for $275, which is good for up to 8 people.

What do you do in the program?

A trainer will give a short presentation on penguin natural history and care. Penguin interaction time will then take place where guests will have the chance to touch the penguin and give it different enrichment to play with.

My child is very grown up. Why can't he go into the penguin programs?

Minimum age is 6 years old. This is for safety of your child and the penguin. No children under 6 will be allowed to attend this program.

Is there a cancellation fee?

If you reserve a spot and do not call or show up, you will be charged for the program.

How far in advance do I need to cancel my reservation?

At least 24 hours in advance.

What should I do in the case of inclement weather?

If the Aviary is closed for the day local media will be alerted. If you cannot attend your program due to snow or ice, please contact the program scheduler at 412-323-7235 ext 209 to reschedule your program. There will be no charge for cancellations or reschedulings due to snow or ice. As much advance notice as possible is appreciated.

Can I bring additional people to the program the day of the program?

No, only the number of registered guests listed on the ticket may attend.

What time do I need to arrive at the program?

At least 15 minutes in advance. You should arrive by 1:45 p.m. and check in at the admissions desk.

Do I have to fill out the permission form for each attendee?

Yes, all guests must sign a waiver before being admitted into the program.

Can I still go into the program if I refuse to sign the permission slip?

No, all guests must sign a waiver before being admitted into the program.

Can I pay cash?

Yes, guests pay on arrival at the admissions desk.

If I am paying cash, why do I need to give a credit card number?

A credit card is required to hold your reservation. You may pay for your program in any way that you like on the day of the program. Your credit card is only charged in the case of a cancellation within 24 hours or a no-call no-show to your program.

I do not have a credit card. Can I still reserve a spot?

Yes, however the program must be prepaid with a check or cash when the reservation is made.
