From the Arctic to the Antarctic, wildlife thrives in our planet’s most extreme environments. How do they do it? Students will gain insight into the survival tactics of animals that make their homes in the coldest climates on earth.


Mythbusters!   NEW!

Are owls really wise? Is it accurate to tell someone that they “eat like a bird”? Do all penguins live in Antarctica? Students will have a chance to examine the most common myths and misconceptions in the bird world as they discover amazing true facts about some of the birds that make the National Aviary their home.


Wetlands
8.00 per student Program lasts 1 hour
Discover the role of wetlands and watersheds in our everyday lives! Through a multi-media presentation, activities, and live bird encounters, students will be able to recognize the impact that we have on watersheds and wetlands, and the effects our actions have on wildlife.


Rainforest
$9.00 per student • Program lasts 1½ hours
Experience the wonders of the rainforest through an immersive encounter with our rainforest birds and an interactive multimedia presentation. Students will gain an appreciation for the rainforest, which is home to roughly 50 percent of the world’s plant and animal species.


Carnivores!
$9.50 per student • Program lasts 1½ hours and includes an owl pellet dissection
Learn about the meat eaters of the avian world and what makes them different from other birds. Through the use of biofacts and live birds, students will appreciate the important role that carnivores play in the wild. This class includes an owl pellet dissection, during which students have the opportunity to discover what owls eat out in the wild!


Bird Basics
$7.00 per student • Program lasts 30 minutes
This introduction to the bird world gives students a chance to examine beaks, feet, feathers and more as they compare two very different feathered friends!


Parrot Parade
$7.00 per student • Program lasts 30 minutes
Not only are parrots colorful and talented, they are also one of the most intelligent groups of birds around. Students will learn all about these incredible birds.


Penguins
$7.00 per student • Program lasts 30 minutes
Did you know not all penguins live in cold climates? Students will learn fun facts about the 18 different species of penguins.


Birds of Prey
$7.00 per student • Program lasts 30 minutes
Learn about the hunters of the sky. What makes these birds different from other birds? Students will appreciate the important role of birds of prey.


Amazing Adaptations
$8.00 per student • Program lasts 1 hour
What does it take for a bird to be a bird? Find out the answer to this question and more as the National Aviary introduces students to the diverse world of birds and their amazing adaptations! Live birds, feathers, beaks, and feet will be used to explore this fascinating group of animals.


Penguins are cool, or are they?
$8.00 per student • Program lasts 1 hour
Did you know not all penguins live in cold weather? In this class, students will learn fun facts and more about the 18 different species of penguins. Participants will discover what makes these unique flightless birds different from other bird species.
