Amazing Adaptations
What does it take for a bird to be a bird? Find out the answer to this question and more as the National Aviary introduces students to the diverse world of birds and their amazing adaptations. Live birds, feathers, beaks and feet will be used to illustrate and explore this interesting class of animals.
ICE
In this one of a kind immersion classroom experience, the sights, sounds and environment of the arctic world surround students. Participants learn about the inhabitants of this frozen world, including polar bears, seals, walrus, and birds, and discover what it takes to survive the harsh conditions of the Arctic Circle.
Penguins are cool, or are they?
Did you know not all penguins live in cold climates? In this class, students will learn fun facts about the 17 species of penguins that inhabit our world. Participants will discover what makes this well-loved, flightless bird different from other bird species.
Birds of Prey
$9 per student
Program lasts 1½ hours
Includes owl pellet dissection.
Learn about the hunters of the sky and what makes these birds different from other birds. Through the use of biofacts and encounters with live birds, students will gain an appreciation for the important role hawks, owls, eagles, falcons, and vultures play in the wild.
