Education - Scouting Programs


Open Enrollment
    Coming in January, 2008


You don’t need an entire troop to participate in Scout classes! Scouts can now sign up individually or in small groups at a convenient week-end time.


Girl Scouts     2nd Saturday of each month, beginning January 12th

  • 9–10 a.m.  •  Brownies: Watching Wildlife
  • 11 a.m.–1 p.m.  •  Juniors: Wildlife Badge
  • 1–3 p.m.  •  Seniors: All About Birds

Boy Scouts     4th Saturday of each month, beginning January 26th
  • 9–10 a.m.  •  Webelos: Naturalist
  • 11 a.m.–12 p.m.  •  Bears
  • 1–2 p.m.  •  Tigers
  • 1–3 p.m.  •  Boy Scouts: Bird Study

Cub Scout Programs

$8.00 per scout
Each program lasts 1 hour

Tiger

This class completes Tiger electives 31, 32, 34, 42, and 47. Learn how to make bird feeders from recycled materials and other conservation minded activities that help protect birds in the wild.

Wolf

Develop an appreciation for the environment and birds through games and activities while satisfying Achievement #7. We will investigate the importance of energy conservation and recycling as well as the negative impacts of pollution on our environment and wildlife around the world.

Bear

Learn about endangered and extinct animals while fulfilling Achievement #5. Explore conservation concerns and the many ways that people can make a positive difference in the environment.

Webelos Naturalist

Webelos will learn how to identify local birds through the examination of feathers, beaks, and feet. They will also create a birdfeeder made from recycled materials to take home and learn ways to take care of the birds in their own backyard.

Boy Scout Programs

Boy Scouts Bird Study Badge
$9.00 per scout
Each program lasts 2 hours

As part of this badge, Boy Scouts are required to visit a facility that is knowledgeable about birds. Where better to go than the National Aviary, the nation’s premier bird park! During this class, scouts will be introduced to the world of birds through hands – on activities, demonstrations, and live birds. Scouts will also have the chance to interview Aviary staff, and learn about all the different opportunities the zoo field has to offer.

Brownies Watching Wildlife
$9.50 per scout
Program lasts 1 hour
Badges are included

Get up close and personal with bird species from all over the world while exploring nature and conservation efforts. The program meets the requirements detailed in the Girl Scout Handbook.

Juniors
$10.50 per scout
Each program lasts 2 hours
Badges are included

Explore a whole world of birds and more through our Junior Badge Program. Through the Plants and Animal or the Wildlife programs, the participants complete the requirements as detailed in the Girl Scout Handbook.

Cadettes: All About Birds
$10.50 per scout
Program lasts 2 hours
Badges are included

Open up the world of zoo careers to the Cadettes through interviews, bird watching, and interactive group discussions. Cadettes will learn all about zoos and why they are important for the future of wildlife.
