Falconry: the Sport of Kings

    Join National Aviary’s licensed falconer, Cathy Schlott, for an exhilarating experience as you delve into the fascinating world of Falconry. Discover the ancient history of the sport that has been enjoyed by kings for thousands of years. Learn about the variety of birds that falconers hunt with and the individual considerations in selecting a species. You’ll even get to enjoy a visit from one of the National Aviary’s Ambassador Animals! With Cathy’s guidance, you’ll explore the variety of falconry equipment and get an overview of the regulations governing falconry in the United States.

    Designed for ages 10 and up, under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

    Create your own work of art! Join Maria DeSimone Prascak of Maria’s Ideas; MariasIdeas.com in person for a creative and colorful class in painting your own fine and feathered masterpiece. In this course, designed for painters of all ages and abilities, follow Maria’s step-by-step instructions to paint a portrait of a well-loved National Aviary animal. 

    Open to participants 8 years and older. Those under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

    Please note: this class is for adults ages 21 and up. 

    Create your own work of art! Join Maria DeSimone Prascak of Maria’s Ideas; MariasIdeas.com in person for a creative and colorful class in painting your own fine and feathered masterpiece. In this course, designed for painters of all ages and abilities, follow Maria’s step-by-step instructions to paint a portrait of a well-loved National Aviary bird, like an African Penguin. 

    Prior to class, relax with friends and meet a National Aviary Animal Ambassador! Enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage and scrumptious bites,  available for purchase from Atria’s.

    Feel like a kid again at the National Aviary! Spend a day with Aviary staff and go behind the scenes to see what it takes to care for the more than 500 birds and animals that call the National Aviary home! Help prepare enrichment for the flock, get up close with Animal Ambassadors, and learn about National Aviary conservation projects across the globe. Registration includes all camp activities, including crafts, up-close animal encounters, and a boxed lunch.
