“Wings of the World” Summer Outdoor Bird Show

Wednesday - Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
Thrill to the Aviary’s breath-taking Summer Free-flight Bird Show in the Rose Garden!

10:15 AM Feeding Time! Wetlands of the Americas
There's something fishy going on every morning in the National Aviary's largest walk-through exhibit. Join trainers for a feed-out and watch as the Inca Terns fly down for a high-protein snack of fish smelts. Toss a fish to the Brown pelicans, join in the Flamingo dance, and say hello to Joanie, the Wattled Curassow.
10:30 AM Penguin Premiere Mon. & Tues.
in the Atrium
Meet Stanley, Elvis, Simon or Patrick, the National Aviary's quartet of African Penguins. Discover the remarkable ways that nature has equipped them to 'fly' under water, avoid predators, and raise their young. You'll also learn how you can make a difference in protecting endangered penguin species around the world.
11:00 AM Feeding Time! Tropical Forest
A fly-by of the feathered kind! Join our trainers in feeding a brilliant variety of birds a snack of wiggly worms, crickets, and grapes. Watch as Golden-breasted Starlings, Carmine Bee-eaters, Fairy Bluebirds and other feathered friends enjoy a late morning snack.
11:00 AM Feed the Lories Lories & Friends exhibit
Hornbill Hall
Lories feeding from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.
Prepare for a colorful brush with nature as our flock of rainbow lorikeets fly down for a visit. Purchase a cup of nectar and you’ll have them eating out of your hand!

12:30 PM Kitchen Window Kitchen Window in the Main Hall
What does a condor eat for breakfast (do you really want to know)? What's on the menu for a Macaw? With more than 800 mouths to feed, the National Aviary's kitchen is a busy place. Meet one of our "chefs" and learn about the variety of foods prepared for our residents each day.
